Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator estimate?
It estimates the full cost of an AI agent failure or escalation: retry inference, human review time, incident response, customer goodwill, reputation hit, churn, and lost opportunity.
What counts as a failure?
Any task the agent does not complete acceptably: wrong answer, missed escalation, bad tool call, policy violation, or user dissatisfaction requiring rework.
Why is reputation impact modeled?
Repeated failures degrade customer trust, increase churn, and can create negative reviews or compliance complaints. We translate that into dollars using MRR, customers at risk, and LTV.
How is cost per resolved failure different from cost per raw failure?
Some failures resolve automatically on retry. The calculator shows cost per failed attempt and a separate, usually higher, cost per failure that still needs human resolution.
Can I compare providers?
Yes. The comparison table shows the same workload for each LLM provider, isolating the inference portion of the failure cost.
Estimates are directional. The cost of an AI agent failure includes obvious retry/API/human-review costs plus harder-to-quantify reputation, churn, and opportunity-cost effects. Use this calculator to find the all-in cost per incident and prioritize reliability investments.
